Matthew Barney NOT Hiring "Adult" Actors

A representative from Gladstone Gallery contacted us today, asking us to retract our earlier post about Matthew Barney seeking "adult" actors for a short erotic film to be shot in Detroit next week. Apparently the Craigslist ad was posted by someone unaffiliated with Matthew Barney's studio and has been removed from the web. Artinfo.com and the The Observer have some more info, although it seems like we're still not getting the full story.

Anyway, all of you Detroit-area exhibitionists will have to find other employers -- Matthew Barney is apparently not hiring. We apologize if we got your hopes up.

Matthew Barney Hiring "Adult" Actors In Detroit

A representative from Gladstone Gallery has informed us that this ad is not legitimate and has been pulled from craigslist. Matthew Barney is NOT hiring adult actors. More info HERE.

Matthew Barney's studio has posted an (apparently legitimate) advertisement on Craigslist seeking "women, men and couples/groups to act in a 13 minute erotic short." The film will be shot in Detroit from August 5-7, and is part of the Destricted project (which released Barney's Hoist on DVD). "Acting experience, an alternative or retro look, and an exhibitionistic nature are all pluses," the ad continues, before warning, "You will be asked to set your limits."

Pornographic Drawing Restraint?

Cremaster Fanatic Jason, who sent us the link to the Matthew Barney / Bjork "First Date" video in our last post, wrote back with a warning for Barney Fans trolling the internet for Matthew Barney videos. Jason says that while searching for a torrent of Drawing Restraint 7, he downloaded a video tagged "Drawing Restraint" that turned out to be a naked Australian woman masturbating while tied to a tree. Is she a Matthew Barney fan? To us, her video sounds more like De Lama Lamina than Drawing Restraint.

Matthew Barney Hangs Out With Porn Star Sasha Grey

While we still doubt the veracity of Matthew Barney & Bjork's reported split, Matthew Barney apparently spent some time with porn star Sasha Grey over the weekend. Cremaster Fanatic Christopher emailed us a link to Grey's blog, where she writes, "I finally met my friend Brandon Stosuy...we got there and had some good talks, and also met with his friend, and an amazing, under rated artist, Matthew Barney. After dinner, we got some scotch and headed back to the hotel."

Our attention was drawn to the Barney-esque photos at the beginning of Grey's post (see above) depicting a mold of her body being made to produce sex toys. No doubt this gave her and Barney something to talk about...

To be fair, Grey is not your typical porn star and her tete-a-tete with Barney was probably innocent. Grey has appeared in experimental films and music videos for The Smashing Pumpkins and the Roots and has modeled for photographers Terry Richardson and Richard Kern.
